Devos of the Week: Psalm 13

“How long, Lord…How long will you hide your face from me?” Sometimes simple prayers are the best, the most honest, the most desperate for God. In recent weeks, with news stories, social media, and most unsettling events, I find myself quieted before God and crying out with simple prayers.  What is your simple prayer today?  “Though we do not see You sometimes, cause us to trust in your unfailing love and salvation.”

Devo of the Week: Psalm 13:1, 6

“How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? … I will sing to the Lord…” Only six verses in this short Psalm, yet an emotional road trip from feelings of God’s abandonment to feelings of confidence in His blessings. It is natural to doubt and question, yet our prayers that honestly bring such to God will most often lead us to an assurance of His bountiful love and blessing in our lives. How short would your psalm be these days? What would you need for God’s assurance? Hear our prayer Lord Jesus and lead us to song!

Leadership Devo of the Week: Job 30:16

“My soul is poured out within me; days of affliction have taken hold of me…”  The Book of Job is not a feel good song.  We may be tempted to stay away from it.  Yet, there is good news.  The range of frustration to anxiety, discouragement to despair takes the honest person of prayer to lament. Job 30:16 affirms that lament is faith and such faith is honest prayer.  What do you do when you feel days of affliction have taken hold of you?  Teach us the honesty and faith of lament, that we may honestly find You there, O God. Amen.
