Devos of the week: Luke 2:49

“Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” Jesus’ early learning at the temple was characterized by sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking questions.  Seeking God among his people and those who reflected deeply on God and his ways caused Jesus to amaze people with his understanding. As Christians people could we learn more by sitting, listening and asking questions?  Who do I sit with? To whom do I listen? What kinds of questions am I asking these days? – May we grow in wisdom and statue with both God and man, O Lord.

Devo of the week: Matthew 21:45-46

“When the Pharisees knew he was talking about them they looked for a way arrest Jesus.”  It is often easy to hide, run, lash out, or kill when we feel threatened by the truth about ourselves and our motivations. It is more difficult to see ourselves in light of the truth and embrace the healing, the repentance, and the change that needs to take place.   How do I respond to new truth in my life?   How do I relate to truth tellers?  Lord Jesus, let the truth set us free. Amen.

Devo of the Week: John 3:9-10

“‘How can this be,’ Nicodemus asked. ‘You are Israel’s teacher,’ said Jesus, ‘and you do not understand these things?'” Nicodemus had some blind spots, unknowns, and questions. The image of having all the answers can be a mirage in the desert. What things “do you not understand?” Father, I depend on you; Jesus, free me to admit “I do not know everything:” Spirit, grant me wisdom to understand Your ways and movements of grace.
