|“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.” Gratitude reflects another aspect of “thankfulness”. What is the connection between gratitude and having the “word of Christ dwell in us”? Why do you think gratitude and thanksgiving are so often connected with music and song in the scriptures? How often do you find yourself singing? How well does your church sing? Teach us to sing, sing, sing; Lord Jesus!|
“This, then, is how you should pray…” Jesus does not leave us with the dangers of false prayer, he points us to prayer that shapes and transforms our lives as we encounter our Loving Father. Why is prayer important at all? Why is it important to pray as Jesus teaches? Teach us the importance of prayer, the vitality
of communion with you O God. As your disciples of old requested so boldly,
“Lord, teach us to pray.”
“Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” Jesus does not scold Thomas. Instead he gives him the evidence he needs and gently invites him to believe. In response, Thomas speaks one of the greatest affirmations in Jesus ever recorded. How do we as leaders deal with those who doubt our plans and strategies for ministry and for change? What might Jesus’ dealing with Thomas teach us? It is easy to grow discouraged with those who don’t agree with me Lord. Teach me, by Your Spirit, to respond with patience and grace.
